Ever since Garon was on the show “Romper Room” at age 4, he has been intrigued by the production business. He started music at age 10 & settled on the guitar. At age 14 his Dad gave him a Magnavox console TV with the tube broken in it to experiment with. He took a chain saw and cut the 12in speakers out of it and went into the DJ business. After realizing he could make more money on a Saturday night than he could pumping gas all week, his job was set in stone…
At age 17 he worked at a local television station in operations while taking any other one night gig available to gain more experience. Several years following he landed a TD position with Medford School District in which he taught production, serviced all the A/V equipment, and was in charge of managing two theatres. During his time with the district he developed GLS on the side & started renting systems as well as producing shows.
Around the age of 24 Oregon Stage Lighting hired Garon to run the rental shop and design shows for their customer, Britt Festivals. The owner also gave him the opportunity to run Garon Lee Sound from his storefront. That helped tremendously in developing good local customer relations. Thanks Bob!
At 28 GLS had grown enough to enable Garon to take the leap of faith and live off of the business. At that point he was doing about 80 shows a year. Shortly there after he met a guy in Holland, MI named Marty O’Connor and got hooked up with some loony charismatic Christians. After 4-live records in Ft. Worth, a bunch of shows all over the US, and several trips to India, he himself was saved by Jesus. Halleluiah! Thanks Marty!!!
In 1998 Garon felt the need to diversify after seeing a hole in the local market and took his knowledge to the hammer and started doing installations as well as production. To his surprise that part of the business took off to a statewide level.
To date the company is running strong on both sides. His reputation has grown solidly in his community and around the world. He recently hooked up with Willow Creek Church in Chicago and is now helping out with the Willow Creek Deutschland productions.
Garon is happily married to his lovely wife Sara, and has three wonderful children: Grady age 6, Shelby age 3, and their newest addition,
Molly, born in September, 2005!
